The Grumman F4F Wildcat was the U.S. Navy's primary carrier-based fighter in the early years of World War II. Known for its ruggedness, tight turning radius, and ability to absorb damage, the Wildcat held its own against faster and more agile Japanese Zeroes thanks to superior tactics and pilot training. It played a critical role in early Pacific battles, including Coral Sea and Midway, before being succeeded by the Hellcat.
