Certain Traxxas radio controlled model vehicles, replacement slipper or brake pad parts, or replacement part assemblies containing slipper or brake pads (e.g., complete transmission kits, slipper assemblies).
The slipper pads in certain electric models and the brake pads in certain nitro fuel models contain small amounts of chrysotile asbestos. The importation of asbestos or goods containing asbestos into the EU is prohibited.
Risk type: The slipper or brake pads sold as parts or sold installed in the affected radio-controlled vehicles contain chrysotile asbestos. Asbestos fibres may be released from the slipper pad in the vehicle through friction and users may be exposed to asbestos fibres if the vehicle is disassembled for repair or maintenance.
Hazard: If asbestos fibres are released into the air and breathed in, they can cause serious medical conditions, including asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma.
Slipper pads are hard composite material pads that measure 14x6x2.5mm and weigh approximately 1 gram per set of 3. Nitro model brake pads are similar. The friction pads do not easily crumble or break apart and generate minimal dust from wear, and for all electric models are enclosed within a cover on the transmission assembly. See below for examples.
Consumers should not attempt to remove or replace the slipper or brake pads or disassemble the slipper assembly in affected vehicles. Consumer should stop using affected nitro powered (non-electric) vehicles.
For consumers in France, affected vehicles should be returned to their place of purchase to be sent to a centralised repair facility for a free repair, which consists of having the affected components replaced. If your vehicle was bought second-hand, your place of purchase is no longer in business, or you do not remember where you purchased the vehicle, you should contact the distributor listed below handling your country for additional instructions.
For EU consumers not in France, consumers may complete this shipping form to receive a pre-paid shipping label and shipping instructions including a REACH regulation asbestos shipping label to send your affected vehicle to a centralised repair facility for a free repair, which consists of having the affected components replaced.
Unopened affected parts should return to their place of purchase for free exchange. If the affected parts have already been installed, follow the instructions for affected vehicles.
